Abstract

This study aims to examine the concept of tarbiyah (Islamic education) in the context of character education and formulate a curriculum management model based on tarbiyah values to strengthen Islamic education curricula. This qualitative library research utilized classical Islamic texts, contemporary literature, and scientific journal articles as primary sources. Data were collected through documentation and analyzed using content analysis, comparative analysis, and conceptual synthesis. The findings indicate that tarbiyah occupies a central position in Islamic character education by emphasizing moral development, the cultivation of good manners (adab), and the integration of scientific and religious dimensions. Classical and contemporary scholars share a common emphasis on morality as a fundamental educational objective, although their approaches to implementation differ according to historical and educational contexts. Based on the synthesis of these perspectives, this study proposes a “Tarbiyah-Based Curriculum Management Model” consisting of four interconnected components: input in the form of Islamic values, process through structured tarbiyah activities, output in the form of Islamic character development, and outcome oriented toward the formation of the insān kāmil (perfect human being). The model provides an integrated and applicable framework for strengthening character education through curriculum management. Its novelty lies in systematically synthesizing classical akhlak-centered and modern adab-oriented traditions into a unified input-process-output-outcome framework, thereby extending previous descriptive and single-tradition approaches toward a more comprehensive curriculum management model. Integrating tarbiyah values into curriculum management can therefore provide a strategic framework for addressing contemporary character education challenges.
